9th Battalion member commemorated at Knutsford

Today we received an email to the 9th Battalion website from Sylvia Chaplin to notify us of the Knutsford Centennial War Memorial.

Knutsford Town Council established the town’s Centennial War memorial which brought together all of the names from other memorials in the town . The memorial commemorates all of those residents of the town lost in the two World Wars and subsequent conflicts. Sylvia was a volunteer researcher with others on the project.

Sylvia said: “As there is soon to be the 75th Commemoration of D Day I thought I would write to let you know for your records of the two paratroopers who died on the 6th June 1944 are who are commemorated on the Centennial Memorial.”

They are

  • Lt George Frederick Peters 271184 of the 9th Battalion
  • Sydney Stringer Walton 3656971  of the 8th Battalion
