The 9th Battalion Reunion Club held its 2018 annual dinner at the Union Jack Club in London on Saturday 3rd of March.
Attendance was good, considering the terrible weather over the previous week, with committee members in attendance, and many of the veterans’ families, as well as a contingent from Merville-Franceville (including the deputy mayor Silvie, Pascaline from the Merville Battery, and her son – and the 9th Battalion standard bearer – Gaetan).
The only veteran able to attend this year was Gordon Newton, who shared stories of the Rhine Crossing, and performed the toasts.
Paul Raison spoke on behalf of the PRA, and gave a regimental update, and finally Paul Hill read a message from the Queen.

I have just been informed by his ex police colleagues where Gordon retired in the rank of chief superintendent, of the sad passing of Gordon Newton, ‘A’ Company, 9th Parachute Battalion. Rest in peace, Gordon. You will never be forgotten.
