Another sad loss to the battalion – this week we were notified of the passing of Cecil Hughes. He joined the 9th Battalion in March 1945 as a reinforcement of the troops already there, and went on to take part in the Rhine campaign, and he also fought in Italy. Cecil travelled to Normandy for many of the reunion trips, and was planning to attend the 75th in 2019. He will be sadly missed.

A couple of pictures of the wreath for Cecil from the 9th Battalion Reunion Club:

I met Cecil quite a few times.A real softly spoken gentleman.
Thankyou for your time sir.
God Bless.??
Dear Cecil,
You were a quiet and gentle man.
I am happy we met and spent time together.
Always in my heart.

Cecil was very helpful to me in my research into the Battalion.
I recently recalled some letters he wrote to me regarding how
he went from an Air Cadet in early 1944 to the Parachute Regiment.
God bless Cecil, you are now at peace.
