We’re sad to report the death of Bill Phelps of the 9th Battalion, towards the end of January. My understanding is that he died peacefully in his sleep, while watching the cricket. Bill did not serve with the 9th Battalion in Normandy, but accompanied us on a number of Normandy pilgrimages. He was a quiet, humble man, and kept himself to himself.
If anyone has stories or pictures of Bill that they can share, it would be great to get more details of his story onto the website. Thanks to Nathalie V for the photos.
Another sad news. Thank you for your service in the Netherlands, Bill. I’m glad I met you on several occasions.
You were very quiet but you won’t be forgotten.
Sad day my father was in the 9 th

He went some years ago
So sad, my father Ernie (Busty) Hawkes was in the 9th Battalion, both he and my Mum died in January 2012
