to who it may concern, I have recently seen many articles stating that Fred Milward was the last surviving member of the 9th parachute battalion who stormed the Merville Battery. My father John Murray was also a surviving member, and he passed on 22nd of August 2017.
Hi Marion, thanks for your post, and sorry hear about John. Sounds like he may well have been the last survivor of the assault! John Murray isn’t mentioned at all in Neil Barber’s book, so it’d be great to hear more about him. Do you have any pictures? If you’d like to send any pictures (see the Contact page) and a summary of his life and his role in the Merville Op, I’d love to add him to the site!
